Dear Students-
Hello all. I wanted to give you an update on a few things since I'm out so much this week. I try to be as transparent as possible so that you al know the rationale behind my actions. As I try to emphasize in class, reasoning and rationale is the most important part of information. That being said, I am still going to preserve some of my own privacy. I just wanted to let you know that I have ben working through some medical issues lately and will be taking a few days to get things taken care of. Those of you in 1st period, please know that it wasn't one thing in particular that cased me to leave. When I get back, there will probably be a few things that I adjust in the classroom to make things a little more productive in the academic sense. Please be respectful of the substitute(s) while I'm gone. There are still several activities and processes to accomplish while I'm out. I hope to hear great things when I get back -Miss Clark English 3 Yesterday, the goal was to work as a class to finish Act III of The Crucible. From what I hear, you all accomplished this! That's wonderful! Today and tomorrow are going to be all about Act IV! Instead of working as a whole-class, though, you will be in small-groups to read the final pages of the script. The sub will hand-out a half-shet with character names and directions for reading. You must turn these half-sheets in before leaving in order to get credit for today. The groups will read at a moderate volume to get through the script, pausing during confusing or impactful points to hold discussion. For today, indicate who read for which part and what page number you left-off at. You will finish the script in this same manner tomorrow. English 2 Honors We've seen one student sample of a synthesis essay, and we will see more tomorrow! For today, though, work within your groups to begin organizing the first segments of your synthesis. Using the student example as a sample of what to do (and what not to do), draft out a possible introduction and beginning paragraphs. Further outlining will be in the following document. Writing Guiding Work Health I know we were supposed to have presentations yesterday, but we need to make a couple of adjustments. I would like to state that the notes from the teachers who were in on Tuesday raved about how great the classes were and that you were very responsible with the computers! Thank you for being awesome. For today, we're going to go through a handout that is provided for you. Read through the document as a class. There are some different approaches for drug refusal; some are intended to be comical, so it's okay to chuckle a bit. Once you're gone through the refusal skills, you will be assigned a scenario. Your assignment is to create a 'comic strip' based on your assigned scenario. You will pick the refusal skill and show the scenario with the main character using a refusal strategy in the final frame or two. You will get a handout BEFORE you begin reading. Discuss and complete the first side of the page; all of the information in the first 9 questions were answered in the reading portion from yesterday. This should take between 10 and 15 minutes. After that, continue reading the script (period 1 will begin on page 39, the other two classes will begin on page 40). We have had students reading different parts for each character and it has been going well. I have a copy of the script in room 620 with sticky-notes on it with names; most of the characters for today’s portion are already assigned. Those of you not reading for a character must still follow along as your classmates read as characters. After you reach page 45, discuss the back side of the handout and respond to the questions. TURN IN the handouts before leaving. English 2 Honors Take the first 10 minutes to finish identifying the different components of an argument within the text “An Indian Father’s Plea.” The highlighters are in the box on the counter on the far side of the room. After you have finished that task, they are to begin a stylistic analysis of the same text. Those directions are in the following document The journal entries are to be done independently. Stylistic Analysis Family Health Students are finishing a research project on an assigned drug. You get this ONE warning: if anyone misuses the computers today, that individual will have computer privileges revoked and must put their device back. Use the technology responsibly. This is the LAST DAY to research and prepare for tomorrow’s presentations. If you feel like they’re done with your slides, run through your presentation with another group to make sure everything makes sense. English 3
Time for a quiz! You ARE able to use your worksheet from the video viewing to support your thinking on the quiz. We took the quiz, then also discussed some responses upon completion. English 2 Honors It was a whirlwind of a class period. We covered a lot of info in a very short amount of time. See me for more info. Health Instead of having a quiz, I decided to give you a bit of time to start doing some background work on researching your assigned drug. Students worked in groups to begin looking up information for the different categories that will be presented next Wednesday. English 3

After getting a report on the substitute from Friday, we talked a bit about the information presented in the movie, The Crucible, and how it was different from the original script. We then completed the scene that ran through all of the information presented in the first two acts of the play. Students were then given 10-15 minutes to discuss the prompts on the viewing guide and fill-in their responses. No new handouts or notes today. English 2 Honors I pried to learn your guys' understanding of the the text, "An Indian Father's Plea. I made you all explain the text to me from your understanding and then clarified a few misconceptions while expanding on certain concepts. Please complete the movie viewing outline while watching The Crucible. You will be turning these in at the end of the period. Movie Viewing Outline English 2 Honors Please read "An Indian Father's Plea" as a class. Wile reading, identify any unknown or unfamiliar terms and search for their meaning or context. once you've finished as a class , please work in partnerships or independently to answer the analysis questions in your notebooks . I ask that one of the students log-in to the computer. I am unable to modify the sharing properties of the document on my current device, so it requires an Everett School account the time being. I will modify that when I have a chance. Students were broken into 7-8 groups and conducted an activity that dealt with stage directions. November 16 Outline English 2 Honors We over-viewed the text that was handed out yesterday. The class filled me in on what transpired while I was gone and explained your thinking about the concept of nationality to me. After that, we dove-in to little bit of what MY cultures are that I identify with. I had a slide that showed you a small glimpse into my life and helped to identify who I am as an individual and explain my culture. Who I Am Health Day one of the CPR training!
