Dear Students-
Hello all. I wanted to give you an update on a few things since I'm out so much this week. I try to be as transparent as possible so that you al know the rationale behind my actions. As I try to emphasize in class, reasoning and rationale is the most important part of information. That being said, I am still going to preserve some of my own privacy. I just wanted to let you know that I have ben working through some medical issues lately and will be taking a few days to get things taken care of. Those of you in 1st period, please know that it wasn't one thing in particular that cased me to leave. When I get back, there will probably be a few things that I adjust in the classroom to make things a little more productive in the academic sense. Please be respectful of the substitute(s) while I'm gone. There are still several activities and processes to accomplish while I'm out. I hope to hear great things when I get back -Miss Clark English 3 Yesterday, the goal was to work as a class to finish Act III of The Crucible. From what I hear, you all accomplished this! That's wonderful! Today and tomorrow are going to be all about Act IV! Instead of working as a whole-class, though, you will be in small-groups to read the final pages of the script. The sub will hand-out a half-shet with character names and directions for reading. You must turn these half-sheets in before leaving in order to get credit for today. The groups will read at a moderate volume to get through the script, pausing during confusing or impactful points to hold discussion. For today, indicate who read for which part and what page number you left-off at. You will finish the script in this same manner tomorrow. English 2 Honors We've seen one student sample of a synthesis essay, and we will see more tomorrow! For today, though, work within your groups to begin organizing the first segments of your synthesis. Using the student example as a sample of what to do (and what not to do), draft out a possible introduction and beginning paragraphs. Further outlining will be in the following document. Writing Guiding Work Health I know we were supposed to have presentations yesterday, but we need to make a couple of adjustments. I would like to state that the notes from the teachers who were in on Tuesday raved about how great the classes were and that you were very responsible with the computers! Thank you for being awesome. For today, we're going to go through a handout that is provided for you. Read through the document as a class. There are some different approaches for drug refusal; some are intended to be comical, so it's okay to chuckle a bit. Once you're gone through the refusal skills, you will be assigned a scenario. Your assignment is to create a 'comic strip' based on your assigned scenario. You will pick the refusal skill and show the scenario with the main character using a refusal strategy in the final frame or two.
