Even though it is not a Monday, we took some NOTES ON CHARACTERIZATION. Periods 1 and 6 went to the library to check-out independent reading books for a chunk of the day, so we did not get all of the notes take. 1st period got through the impacts of both types of characterization, but 6th period only got as far as the two types. Both classes were PHENOMENAL in the library and I am very thankful and proud of you all. For periods 2 and 4, we began--and for many, finished--a WORKSHEET practicing understanding how the two types of characterization help us understand the story and character. We will be referencing this worksheet tomorrow when we go over character sketches. FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP It was syllabus day! We broke down some of the expectations and elements of the class. After covering that and answering some questions, we made a name tent! This is to not only help me learn your names, but also to help your classmates remember your name. Here are the SLIDES explaining both steps to the day.

We broke-down our next assessment and set-up a "what and why" statement to guide us through the next month. We read through the assessment and prompt portions of the UNIT OUTLINE. In order to succeed in the analysis of Antigone, we need to know the story of Oedipus. We watched THIS VIDEO gives a good overview of Oedipus, just be sure to stop at 4:04 otherwise you will get spoilers for Antigone. FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP Welcome to the class! We started the semester off by getting to know me a bit as well as a couple of your classmates! Here are the SLIDES that were shown in class with the information about me as well as the directions for the reading through the syllabus. ENGLISH 2
Students worked on their essays, and several students in each class completed their final vocabulary assessment conference. I also briefed over how to create a works cited page using the EasyBib add-on in Google Documents. We will be working to finalize our essays, continue with the final vocabulary assessment conferences tomorrow. It will be the last chance for marking our essays for delivery as a speech and running through them before finals start. FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP It's time to make sure we are prepared for next week's finals! I worked with several students concerning organization for their English essays as well as some math course materials. ENGLISH 2
We worked on multiple elements of finals again today. We took the last weekly syntax/diction quiz for the semester, students worked on their essays, and several students in each class completed their final vocabulary assessment conference. We will be working to finalize our essays, continue with the final vocabulary assessment conferences, and will revisit the requirement of a works cited page on Monday. Students will also get a copy of the paraphrased rubric for their final essay/speech that we worked on two weeks ago. Tuesday will be for marking our essays for delivery as a speech and running through them. FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP It's time to make sure we are prepared for next week's finals! We went through a "Study Hacks" suggestions and used the class time to organize and prioritize our study preferences. ENGLISH 2
Today we worked on our essays! I handed back the outlines that students turned-in on Tuesday (yes, there is a grade for those in the gradebook. I need to check-in and make sure that you're working toward the project), and students were given the entirety of the period to type their research into an essay. As students worked on their essays, I also called several back to my desk to complete their final vocab assessment. It takes most students 4-5 minutes for this conversation. During this time, students select ten of our 34 vocab terms that we have covered over the semester; they must define and use the terms correctly. FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP Due to my lack of preparation, we swapped our plans for today and tomorrow. Instead of having some study and preparation skills for finals, we had our usual Friday academic day today. I checked-in on student successes in classes and everyone was responsible for working toward homework or a project. Several students worked together to better understand some tricky math homework. Anyone who uses feminine hygiene products, if you could help a fellow student out by completing this SURVEY, it would be appreciated for her AP Research project.

We took notes today on PRESENTATION SKILLS and completed a research check-point by outlining what we plan to have in our essay based on the research we have completed. Here is a SAMPLE of a completed organizer that I prepared for my speech to the class on the Egyptian goddess Isis. In my notebook, the notes took one and a half pages. Here they are in image 1 and 2 FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP Great job on the assembly! I had several students and staff members commend the assembly as being a success and powerful! In class today, we took some of the feedback from the class discussions concerning the prompts on how to continue King's legacy here at CHS. Each student needed to identify at least two items on the list of feedback and write down how they think we can begin to work toward that success. ENGLISH 2
We got our final set of words for this month's SYNTAX/DICTION days. These terms can be useful in our speech presentations, final vocabulary assessment, and life in general! FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP We took time to work on academic success. I checked-in with students concerning grades and missing assignments. Each student was responsible for working on something for at least one class. Some students conducted research, some went to talk with available teachers, and some focused on documents they had with them. ENGLISH 2
Today was day two or research! Students were reminded of the following requirements before getting the remainder of the period to continue learning about their selected god or goddess:
FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP Students presented their Leadership Traits project to the class to start things off. We then went on a focused search for BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON MLK. Each student was required to find a different piece of information on King's background and life as a young man. This is the final piece needed for the assembly script. ENGLISH 2
Today was the first day designated to research! Students were reminded of who their selected deity was, and were given the class period to begin researching the stories and legends associated with these deities. FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP Today we began practicing for finals. selected small groups to work with. Their task was to pick a children's movie and identify the seven traits of leadership that we have looked at this semester. |
