Due to the math SBA, all classes were only 25 minutes today.
English 3 We began listening to chapter 13 at the start of the period. We will finish-up the chapter tomorrow morning before moving-on. English 2 Honors Since we only had a short period, we finished the notes on required aspects of short stories and discuss how each aspect plays a role in the assignment. Health After finishing up the conversation on sexual orientation, we completed a group activity on the different steps of PROPER condom application.

We revisited the writing prompt from from Friday and looked more into the themes seen throughout the novel. Upon turning in our theme paragraphs, we read chapter 12 and briefly discussed the shift in Janie's character. English 2 Honors Introduction to short stories! We looked at all of the requirements for each of the nine genre options and decided which four to focus on as a class. Students voted and the following genres were chosen: Science Fiction Horror Romance Fantasy Health We began to look at the different aspects of sexuality and identity. We will finish this tomorrow before getting to the next activity. English 3
We read chapter 11 and discussed the themes throughout the text so far. There was a quick-write during which students had the final 7-8 minutes of class: Using evidence from at least two points in the book so far, thoroughly explain a logical theme introduced in the first half of TEWWG. English 2 Honors It was the final class time to work on our essays. The essays are due first thing Tuesday morning when we return to class. Health We recapped the fertilization process, we worked on understanding how stereotypes impact society's perception on gender. We then began to discuss the different roles and responsibilities of individuals in relationships. English 3
Due to the SBA testing schedule, we did not meet for periods 1-3. English 2 Honors I know that half of the students just finished writing an essay for the SBA today, but we began our literary analysis essay today, as well! I provided a handout that has three possible ways to begin organizing your essay. Each suggestions covers the same material, but The structure looks different in an attempt to help us see multiple ways of organizing our thinking and responding to a prompt. Due to testing this week, I was unable to get computers for either of our writing days. We instead began to hand-write our essays in-class today and will complete them in-class tomorrow. Health We completed our reproductive anatomy study with a look at the female anatomy and the journey of an ovum (egg). After labeling and discussing these anatomical aspects of reproduction, we worked with partners to complete a "word puzzle" to help us understand the fertilization process. English 3
We finally met Tea Cake in TEWWG. After reading/listening to chapter 10 and discussing come of the impactful events, we took our chapters 6-10 quiz and scored them. After finishing the quiz, we looked at possible thmes to go along with four central ideas of the text: Love, Fate vs. Free Will, Appearance, Communication. We will continue with the text on Friday (chapter 11) as well as the discussion on themes. English 2 Honors SAY WHAT?!?!?!?!?! So many tragedies at the end of this play! (Hint: That's why it's called a Greek TRAGEDY) Well, we finished Antigone and looked at some of the themes we see represented throughout the play. We had an awesome conversation about how so many lives could have saved if Creon had only learned the lessons of the themes prior to this play taking place. Tomorrow we start organizing our thinking for our essay. Health We started my favorite lesson to teach: Reproductive Anatomy! Although many of the reproductive body parts are known already, we need to make sure we understand how everything works in conjunction with each other. Today, we started with the male reproductive system and learned a few new pieces of anatomy that many of us had never heard about. English 3
Gasp! Joe died!! After reading through chapter 9, we discussed the implications this turn of events leaves for Janie. We independently started capturing our thoughts on several central ideas of the text and will use that information in discussion groups this week. English 2 Honors and Health Due to the SBA testing schedule, we did not meet for 4th or 6th period. English 3
We got a new seating chart. Most students were here for all three class periods of English 3, but check with me upon your return for your new seat and to know with whom you are in a discussion group. All classes started AND completed chapter seven of TEWWG. We all got a bit of a laugh when we looked closely at the line on page 79 when Janie humiliated Joe in the store, then began to discuss how their marriage is represented and breaking-down. We also began chapter eight and looked at how age had affected both Janie and Joe. After 20 years of marriage, they were showing both physical and mental aging. English 2 Honors After revisiting the components that make-up a tragic hero, we looked at Antigone and Creon to see if/how each could fit those requirements so far. We then started reading the final scene of Antigone. Health It's finally here: Sex Education! We started things off with an introduction to sexuality and tried to grasp what all sexuality meant. There were a few pieces of the class that were more of a "stop and discuss" setting since we're following a different curriculum for this unit. English 3 Since it was a shortened schedule, we started back up with chapter six right away and only stopped a couple of times to discuss the text. We finished chapter six and I wished you all a great, healthy weekend. English 2 Honors It's time to wrap-up our SBA preparations! Since the majority of you will be taking the SBA next week, we will look at the final process of the test. The class worked to draft an outline for the essay portion of the test. Health After such an interesting week and a half, we wrapped-up the drug unit by completing the public service announcements for our researched substances. English 3
We started chapter six today and discussed how the mule symbolically represented Joe Starks. For I will be uploading the chapter summaries of chapters 1-6 this weekend, after we finish chapter six tomorrow. English 2 Honors Essay prep work today. We summarized the first six scenes and then started organizing our analysis. For our analysis, we will need to be able to clearly explain and support our thinking about each of the following aspects of the play:

Finished chapter five! After the audio book, we took the first quiz and scored it. Student can schedule retakes or make-ups with me outside of class. English 2 Honors After finishing the sixth scene in Antigone, we worked through the following prompts: -What Justification does Antigone give for burying Polyneices when she would not have done this for the other family members that she referenced? -Do you think that Antigone goes to her death as a martyr? Support your claim with textual evidence. Health We heard from our last presentation today. The HEROIN presentation wrapped-up the information pieces. Tomorrow is the test to wrap-up the unit, then Friday will be time to finish our PSA projects. |
