We started listening to and following along with chapter five of TEWWG. While going through the text, we occasionally stopped to look at character development and plot outlining. Our focuses for character development were Hicks and Joe Starks. English 2 Honors We finished the "Foil" portion of reading today and started working through the "Odes to Love and Death." There was A LOT of information discussed and some has to wait until tomorrow, but we're seeing some of Antigone's sadness and that will lead us to talk about her characterization. Health Technology wasn't working very well to start things off, so groups were given about 25 minutes to work on their PSA projects. After that, we BARELY got through the presentation on LSD. We will start tomorrow's class off with the Heroin presentation, then wrap-up all Kahoots and crosswords, then have the remainder of the period to finish our PSA projects.

After discussing the adjusted schedule for the assembly, we went over a couple of different ways to gather our notes/quotes as we read along. We then listened to chapter four and I conducted a note check. These note checks cannot be made-up; you must be here on Mondays in order to get them checked-off. English 2 Honors We started reading on page 278 this morning with a focus on the concept of a literary foil. We got about halfway through the selected portion of text for foils and analyzed how some of the characters are showing signs of opposing King Creon. Health Today we heard from two more groups about the research they conducted on a substance. Click on the links below to see their presentations. Cannabis Ecstasy English 3
We looked at the material you all covered while I was gone this week. After getting caught-up on the happenings of class, we listened to chapter three on the audiobook. We also discussed the overviews of the first three chapters and responded to two quick prompts. Click HERE for the quick prompts. English 2 Honors We're getting so close to the end of the SBA preparations! The links to their presentations are provided below: Nicotine Mushrooms Message to my classes: I am still struggling with an illness that started last week. Please follow the plans that the substitute has as well as complete all work to the best of your ability. I may be gone, but that doesn't mean it's a free-for-all. We have materials to cover and, with the end of the school-year creeping up on us, a very tight schedule to complete everything in.
Expectations for today:
English 3 All directions and prompts can be found HERE. You are to work through TEWWG on your own today. Most of chapter two is a narrative explaining the setting and Janie's childhood; there isn't an extraneous amount of dialogue. There are writing prompts to complete when you are done reading. Please respond to all three in complete sentences and use evidence from the text to support your answer. If you want an audio version of the book, you can sign-up for a free trial and get this text at audiobooks.com or audible.com. English 2 Honors If there are any volunteers to read, please speak-up first! If not, then I have left reading assignments with the substitute. You are to read and then discuss the material so far. Each student is responsible for recording their thinking to the questions provided in the slides HERE. If you finish these prompts before the period is over or are off-task and talking, then the substitute has my permission to have you continue to read the next portion of the play beginning on page 278. She will have full choice as to who reads lines. Behave yourselves, please. Family Health We will start-back-up with presentations tomorrow, I promise! You will be receiving a letter from the substitute today that is to go home to your parents. I know that we are approaching the end of the year, and that means that we're quickly approaching our final unit of study: Sexual Education! These letters briefly outline the significance of and components that will be covered in the unit. For today, though, I will have your groups do an activity that I was going to save for tomorrow. Click HERE to view the document with the directions. Yes, I am very aware that there are walls of text on the slides, and I had told you not to do that. There is a purpose for it, though, and if you'd like for me to discuss those, I will do so tomorrow when I return. I am finalizing the directions and presentations, they will all be uploaded shortly. Periods 1-4 are finished and linked below.

After looking at the prompt options for our final assessment, we started breaking-down excerpts from Zora Neale Hurston's short story Sweat. We discussed the concept of phallic symbols in literature and the role they play in helping the foreshadow for the reader. After the discussion on that, we dove deeper into the style of writing in dialect that Hurston often used. We translated the text from 1930s Floridian speech to standard English conventions. Most groups did very well while some struggles arose. English 2 Honors ENTER THE KING! Seeing as our final analysis is going to be about Creon, it's about time we meet him! We discovered some of his hypocritical ways today and realized that he's actually a selfish people pleaser--wait, that's possible??? Turns out he's a very complex character and the guards need to be careful about what happens from here on out or else Creon may end up punishing them for being greedy. The chorus leader helped to shine some light on the complexities of this character and our lovely chorus was even more helpful. Health Presentations begin! Today we heard from the following groups: Meth and Cocaine English 3
As promised, we checked-out our final novel. After that, we sat-down and wrote our Harlem Renaissance assessment. English 2 Honors Let's get into the text! We took down notes on four vocab terms and worked through the portion of Antigone that introduces the chorus and chorus leader. Health Today was to practice our presentations and perfect the delivery. We had nearly the entirety of the period to work with our groups and time our presentation. English 3
Time trials! Groups were instructed to run-through their presentations and time themselves. In order to make sure the timing works for these projects, I needed an estimated time for each presentation. English 2 Honors We looked at character sketches for six of the characters in the play Antigone. By doing this, we gained some background knowledge of the contents of the play. Health We continued our work toward research project. I focused us specifically on the five W's and H when guiding the class through the required materials. As long as you answer those questions, you will be able to address the nine different vocab terms. English 3
