I'm sorry for being out today; some of you heard how raspy my voice was on Friday and I'm not doing too much better than that.
English 3 Today is the LAST day to work on your speeches. There will be no exceptions or adjustments to the schedule unless I have already talked to you individually. Practice your speech with a classmate and time yourself. Work specifically on your audience interaction and making sure you hit at least 2 minutes. If you go over 5 minutes, I will stop each speaker at the 5-minute mark. If students are not working toward their speech, they should be preparing for other finals or reading quietly. 2nd period specifically: there are MANY students in this class who did not use their time wisely on Friday; please emphasize with this group that there is no adjusting their speech presentation times. Speech Order English 2 Honors This is the last time your have to finalize their presentation. You may use your phones to finalize any research or writing. If you are are done with your speech, you should be reading or working on other school work quietly. Family Health Students are to work on their final projects. There is colorful paper in the tote on the counter near the printer if students need that for their project. There are markers and colored pencils on the table in the back corner of the room opposite of the teacher desk. Most students are working on group projects; they MUST be focused on this assignment. If you are doing a video project, you must check with the teacher about what/when/where you are allowed to work on today. Try to have your projects as finalized as possible.

Today, we went through what qualified as a successful speech as well as approriate audicnce membership. After discussing these qualities, we watched three speeches and identified what was effective and/or ineffective during the speech. We discussed the fact that the effective list is much larger than any other aspect of our discussion and how certain speeches may incorporate some qualities while other effective speeches use others. English 2 Honors Typing day! Students were to take all of the research gathered in the past three class-days and begin sculpting their speech. We will use these initial writings to discuss the components of argumentation throughout this week. Health Today was all about identity and expression. We worked through a few categorizations as a class and then went through an activity to highlight the significance of being open and honest with our values and identities. English 3
Today was all about speech proposals. Students were focused to the assignment to see what specifics they need to consider when choosing thier topic. The rest of the period was devoted to coming-up with three potential topic proposals. Each student needed to propose what they wanted to change/omit/add and why they wanted to do so; these two aspects were needed for all three potential topics. The topic proposals were due at the end of the period. English 2 Honors This was the last class day for research on the deities. I gave a quick sample introduction to my diety, Nike, and showed students how they can begin to set-up their speech/essay structure. The essay does not need to be in a standard paragraph format, but we will be covering more possible structures on Monday. Health Today, we finished-up the reproductive anatomy worksheet and tied that in with an introduction to the difference between biological sex and gender. All students received a handout with different terms and definitions relating to sexual identity. English 3
