It is SYNTAX/DICTION DAY #5! I made some adjustments to how I will assess the mastery of colon, semicolon, and em dash usage, so there was no quiz today. All of the vocab terms today are directly applicable to our current unit of study: I specifically focused-in on how they could apply when discussing this week's text of financial bias, but they could also all be applied to any discussions of bias. FRESHMAN LEADERSHIP Seeing as it is Friday, we had an academic focus day! I first went over the importance of using our planners and had each student write-in, at the very least, reminders to study for their roots quizzes in English classes. I will be getting updates on other class deadlines and upcoming assessments, and students will have weekly planner checks to make sure that they are maintaining their planner use and staying on-top of their upcoming assignment. After about 10 or so minutes, students were instructed to work on homework, prepare for an upcoming assessment, or complete missing assignments. I worked one-on-one with a couple of students throughout the period on some focused skills and getting organized; I will shift my focus to different students each week.
