Final day of Gatsby!!!!! There were some twists and turns that were revealed and several people were shocked. Here is the FINAL viewing guide for Gatsby. We had a PowerPoint with some notes and then discussed different foods we can use to follow the dietary guideline of keeping a colorful plate! Gatsby day 3!! We watched the third chunk of the movie as a class. We still have about 40 minutes left and will finish the movie on Monday! Below is the movie viewing guide for today. Gatsby Guide Day 3 Health We finished-up with the letter-writing assessment and had a laid-back day after that. Starting today, we need to log our food consumption for a week! Day two of Gatsby! Today we actually got to meet the man himself; Jay Gatsby was introduced and his intentions were revealed. Things got a little awkward during his reintroduction with Daisy, but everything turned out pretty okay. Here are the prompts to today's movie viewing. Since I was gone yesterday, I wasn't able to explain some of the notes we took. We reviewed the information in yesterday's notes and clarified the significance of each of these individual pieces. Once we finished the recap of the notes, we looked at the movie viewing guide for the day and began watching The Great Gatsby. We watched 21 minutes of the movie and started to discuss the characters we've seen so far. If you missed the movie, please view this first portion and complete the movie viewing guide below. Movie Viewing Guide Health Much of the period was spent reviewing the notes from Monday as well as discussing the upcoming assessment. All notes are posted under Monday's work. I'm out sick today. Here are the notes that we need to have in order for tomorrow to be successful when I come back! All typical classroom rules/expectations apply. English 3 Setting Schema Notes Students: I would recommend having one timeline at the top of your page that you create and add to throughout the notes today. Providing the notes below that you be the cleanest, simplest way to organize things. This information is to help us understand just what was happening during the time period that The Great Gatsby (TGG) was set during. It is crucial to understand this in order to fully grasp the themes and drive we will look at while viewing the movie. Also, I'm working on grading the essays. If you haven't submitted yours yet, please do so immediately! I will be assigning academic supports for those who haven't submitted their essay by tomorrow morning. If you're having trouble uploading to turnitin.com, email your essay to me and I will count that as turned in. I will work with you to get turnitin.com figured out when I get back. Health Managing Depression Notes Students: We're getting so close to the end of this unit, I know you can hold on until the end! Students then took turns sharing the information they learned in their research. This information will be covered on Monday's quiz. If you don't feel prepared for the quiz, look at the brochures under the Family Health tab on this website. All of the information on the quiz will be taken directly from your classmates' brochures. Very briefly, students were introduced to the ideas of bibliographies and in-text citations. This process will be taught more in-depth during our research unit, but students are to cite their sources in their American Definition essay. Tomorrow will be small-group presentations, so be prepared to share the information you found with your classmates. English 3
Today was all about transitions! We went over a method for inserting transitions between our CDs and CMs to help our paragraphs feel more connected. Transition Notes and Process Health We were in the computer lab working on our Mental Illness Brochure projects. Students began compiling their information into the brochure template. English 3
Today was about peer focus on our writing. Students read through a randomly assigned partner's essay draft and indicated where they believe the essay would fall along the rubric scoring. Health We finished-up the notes on mental illnesses and moved in to the group project to better understand some of these illnesses. Students were broken in to seven groups and selected one of the illnesses to further look at. Students are gathering information and filling out prompts to create an informational brochure to share with the class. No homework for any classes. English 3
Periods 1-2 We scored Clark's rough draft! To the amazement of many, the idea portion would be a C if she didn't make any revisions and the structure would have gotten a D grade! Be prepared to critique each others essays tomorrow to identify the areas that could use the most adjusting before Friday's final copy is due. Period 3 I conducted an essay check-point today. You were assigned to have your essay printed or handwritten by the time class started today. If you did not have your essay in-person today, you can make-up part of the checkpoint grade by showing me your draft tomorrow. Any absences today have until the day they come back to provide a copy of their essay. We did peer-assessments of our essays alongside the rubric. Please use the rubric and have someone assess where your writing fits in the scale from incomplete to exemplary. Definition Essay Rubric Health We started the Mental Illness unit. In the PowerPoint below, 5th period completed the information on Post Traumatic Stress while 6th period got to the OCD slide. We held a lot of discussions about the different disorders and shared some of our personal experiences.
